Experience and Background

For more than 30 years I was an elementary school teacher. I loved my chosen career, was passionate about the success of my students, and truly enjoyed getting to know them and their families. Because of my busy weeks I would often unwind and spend my Saturdays watching cooking shows on PBS and cooking food for the upcoming week. I found it very relaxing plus we always had good nutritious meals ready to go.

When it came time to retire from teaching I decided that I needed to do something totally different, something I was passionate about, something that would still allow me to spend time with people, and something that would, in some way, be helpful.

While glancing through a cooking magazine, I saw an ad about becoming a Personal Chef. I decided it was the perfect thing for me. I spent some time researching and planning and when I finally did retire, in 2006, I put a series of ads in The Monadnock Shopper. They wrote a story about me and my new business. The day that story ran my phone started ringing. I've been cheffing ever since.

I have found that my passion for preparing good food and my love of reading cookbooks has helped to make my business a success. I love meeting new clients and helping them put nutritious meals on their table. I relish the challenge of researching recipes and preparing foods that are within my clients' guidelines. Whether these meals are low-sodium, low-fat, diabetic, gluten-free or absent of ingredients to which my clients are allergic, the bottom line is they taste good and are nutritious.

As a Personal Chef, I have accomplished the goals I set for myself. I am passionate about what I do. I work with wonderful people and my service helps them to eat well and to have more time for other important things. In the case of elderly clients, it helps them to remain independent and in their own homes.

I was privileged to have Joan as my special diabetic chef for 3 years. The meals were delicious, as well as nutritious. I am moving to an assisted living program but I will miss Joan tremendously. I would give her an A+++, plus she gave me lots of TLC.

Joan has been so accommodating to our needs. My husband and I are older and we each have several medical issues. Joan has happily made changes as our dietary requirements change. Not sure what we would do without her. We love the days when she is here. She always walks in with a smile and makes us feel good before she even begins to cook. She really has become a member of our family.
